KinFAST is a free adaptive testing tool used in a McMaster University Kinesiology course. KinFAST is operated by Joshua Nederveen. KinFAST is not an official service of McMaster University, and McMaster University does not operate or control it. By creating an account or otherwise using KinFAST, you agree to these Terms of Use.
Anyone may create a KinFAST account using a valid email address. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity that happens under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, change your password immediately and contact us at the email below. You should not create multiple accounts to get around course restrictions or other limits described in these terms.
Most courses on KinFAST are private. You need a join code from your instructor to enrol in a private course and see its content. Instead of you signing up yourself, your instructor may also generate a PIN and password for you directly, already enrolled in their course. Some instructors choose to make a course public, in which case anyone can browse and take practice tests without an account. Instructors and teaching assistants of a course have additional permissions, including the ability to view and export performance data for students enrolled in their own course, and to generate PINs for their own course. You agree not to share your PIN, password, or join codes with anyone who is not authorized to use them, and not to attempt to access a course, or another user's account or data, that you are not authorized to access.
When using KinFAST, you agree that you will not do any of the following:
KinFAST is a testing and practice tool. If your course has its own academic integrity policies, those policies continue to apply to your use of KinFAST. Without limiting any such policy, you agree not to use KinFAST to share test questions in a way your course prohibits, manipulate or falsify test results, impersonate another student, or get around testing restrictions put in place by your instructor. KinFAST itself does not determine what constitutes academic misconduct. That determination belongs to your course and institution.
KinFAST generates ability estimates and related statistics based on your responses to questions. These are educational and testing outputs intended to support learning and practice. They are not a grade, an official academic record, or a diagnosis of any kind, and should not be relied upon as such.
Instructors and teaching assistants may access data associated with courses they are authorized to manage, including individual student response history and performance summaries, and may export this data. Instructors are responsible for using this information appropriately and in line with their institution's own policies. Once an instructor exports data from KinFAST, for example as a spreadsheet, that exported copy is outside KinFAST's control, and the instructor is responsible for how it is stored, used, and eventually disposed of.
KinFAST's software, interface, and design belong to its operator. Question banks and course materials uploaded by an instructor remain that instructor's property. By uploading content to KinFAST, an instructor grants KinFAST a license to host, store, and display that content for the purpose of running the course on KinFAST.
KinFAST relies on a small number of third-party services to operate: Gmail, to send account verification and password reset emails, and, optionally, Google's Gemini API, which instructors may use to get AI-assisted suggestions for topic and subtopic names. Gemini only ever receives course, topic, and subtopic names for this purpose, never student data. These are described in more detail in our Privacy Policy.
KinFAST's collection and use of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy. Please review it to understand our data practices.
KinFAST is provided in its current form. We do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors. KinFAST may be unavailable at times for maintenance, technical issues, or other reasons, and its features may change over time.
We may suspend or terminate your account if we believe you have violated these terms, abused the service, posed a security concern, or if your course access is removed by your instructor or institution. We may also discontinue KinFAST entirely. If your account is terminated, your data will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
KinFAST is an educational tool provided for testing and practice purposes. KinFAST does not guarantee academic results, grades, or performance, and does not guarantee that questions, ability estimates, or other outputs are free of errors. KinFAST is provided without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, KinFAST's operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of KinFAST. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
If these terms change, we will notify all users by email and update the date at the top. If you do not agree with updated terms, you should stop using KinFAST, and may contact us at the email below to request that your account be deleted.
