What stimulus initiates the micturition reflex?

Voluntary signals from the cerebral cortex transmitted to the sacral spinal cord. Relaxation of the external urethral sphincter triggered by autonomic nervous activity. Activation of stretch receptors in the bladder wall when urine volume reaches 200–400 mL. Parasympathetic nerve impulses that stimulate contraction of the detrusor muscle.
